oka romantic crime katha Movie Review

"There are no secrets in this world. Somebody is recording all our sins . . .", says a 15-year-old Tanmayi to a police officer be fore being shot dead along with her boy-friend, Sanjay (Manoj). Wondering why? The teenaged lovers confess to having murdering 8 people so that they can rob them and get rich! Now that isn't your regular 5-song-six-stunt-potboiler, but we're afraid the novelty ends at the choice of the subject. The movie does try to push the envelope but unfortunately the intent doesn't quite transform into result as the movie lacks the chutzpah needed to pull off such a script.

The movie is set in Vishakapatnam. Tanmayi, Anjali and Veena are three good friends. Tanmayi is a class X student, Anjali is in intermediate and Veena is an engineering student. Sanjay, an orphan, is smitten by Tanmayi and keeps following her. Desperate to impress her, he resorts to chain snatching to make money for a big bike, nice clothes and the works.

Anju is a hormonally charged youngster who loves to give in to anyone who is nice to her. She has some parenting issues we are told in the end. Then Veena falls for Kiran, a con who specializes in blackmailing gullible girls.

Their live begin to go haywire almost simultaneously. Anjali discovers that she's pregnant and can't even remember who it was that caused it. Then Kiran starts blackmailing Veena with secretly shot intimate videos of them caught in the act. Meanwhile Tanmayi and Sanjay turn into murderers, believing that it's the best way to get rich. Now that's a pretty twisted tale of decadence among the youth of the day. The movie also tries to philosophize about what causes innocent youngsters to go astray, but neither is it convincing nor revelatory. Thankfully it doesn't try to offer any solutions.

As far as the craft of filmmaking goes, it is very basic. The writing, the narrative, the cinematography, music, everything is a little too amateurish. The performances vary from average to bad except for Gayatri who manages to stand out. The film makes a few poignant statements about what the world at large is coming to but it just doesn't quite make an impact.
